Sit, Snooze, Slow Down Summer

Greetings and Happy Summer! It’s finally here and I can hardly believe the 4th of July is next week. I already am wanting the weeks to slow down. Why do summers fly by so fast? In part, I think the answer is because we spend too much time indoors.

Many of you tell me that your job is a continuous stream of stressful projects, each more important and needs to be executed faster than the last. How do we keep our mental sanity and hearts happy with the nonstop strain? I hear you and I got you.

It might seem counter intuitive, but one of the ways to regain your center is to simply slow down. MAKE THE CHOICE to carve out a few moments in your day that bring you back to your sense of smell (flowers), touch (skin), taste (watermelon), or sight (sunset). Whatever sensory adventure excites you, I encourage you to disengage from your electronics and get into the “being” mode versus the “doing” mode. Instead of watching your evening TV, go for a leisurely stroll in your neighborhood. Take a long sit outside and check out the surrounding nature. Teach the kids to make Sun Tea. Visit a new place and start a new adventure. And there’s nothing like a no-reason-why summer nap to make you feel luxurious. And of course, spend time and laugh with the people that light you up.

Soak up these longer summer days. I mean reeeeeally dig in, slow down, and pay attention to what information your senses are giving you. Enjoy, and don’t forget to nourish yourself.
