FIRE CIDER: Nature’s Cold & Flu Remedy
It’s official, I have packed away my summer clothes…”winter is coming”. And with it comes the dreaded germs that get shared at our offices, schools, and on public transportation. It is time for Fire Cider!
Fire Cider is nature’s homeopathic elixir to boost our immune systems to keep us healthy through the change of season and all winter long. It is anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, anti-viral, a natural decongestant, and promotes healthy blood circulation. Here’s what you need:
- horseradish
- ginger
- turmeric
- lemon
- jalapeno
- onion
- garlic
- apple cider vinegar
- honey
Remove the skin from the horseradish (if you don’t have raw horseradish, you can also used jarred), ginger, and turmeric. Squeeze the juice from 1 lemon. Then chop the remaining ingredients. Place everything in a glass jar then cover with apple cider vinegar. If using a metal lid, line with wax paper so the vinegar doesn’t corrode it. Place this potent concoction in a dark, room temperature cabinet for 2-4 weeks (one month is best).
When the cider is ready, shake well, then strain (and collect) the liquid through cheesecloth or a fine metal sieve. Add honey to taste and store Fire Cider in the fridge. You can stir fry the veggies for a spicy meal if you like!
Take 1-2 tablespoons of Fire Cider a day for cold and flu prevention. Double that if you get sick. You can also use this spicy blend in salad dressings, marinades, or a cocktail!
Happy Sipping!
